Pepita is an Alebrije who appears in the 2017 Disney/Pixar animated characteristic film, Coco. She is affiliated with the late members of the Rivera family every bit their guide-protector.
Groundwork
Pepita is an imposing Alebrije who functions as a sort of spiritual guide for Imelda. She cannot speak; instead, she can only brand animal-like roars and noises.

Powers and abilities
Pepita is equipped with multiple predatorial features, including her claws and teeth, besides every bit a pair of strong wings that requite her the ability of flight. As a spirit guide, she has impressive tracking skills, as she was able to track Miguel'south scent for her mistress by sniffing the petal he touched, and tin make Miguel's tracks glow a vivid blueish by breathing on them. Eventually, Pepita brings them to a talent contest in Plaza de la Cruz where Miguel and Héctor are performing. Pepita reappears during Ernesto'southward concert, saving Miguel from sure death after Miguel is thrown off stage by Ernesto. Afterward returning Miguel to the family unit, Pepita later on comes onto the phase to punish Ernesto for all the Riveras' grievances from his murder of Héctor, just as the corrupted musician's villainy has been revealed. Ernesto begs for mercy, but Pepita roars fiercely in his face, headbutts him off the phase, and grabs him by his pelvis. She then tosses Ernesto in the air and swats him out of the arena with her tail, sending the vile musician hurtling into a nearby bong tower, with the bell crushing Ernesto for good every bit the crowd cheers.
One year afterwards these events, Pepita has adult a friendship with Dante, who has become another spirit guide for the family unit. - Pepita is inspired by Mexican artisan sociology, particularly in the Oaxaca region.[1]
- Pepita's species, Alebrijes, are small figurines made out of paper maché or carved out of woods that represents mythical animal hybrids. Adrian Molina and the Pixar team came beyond these brightly-coloured sculptures while doing research for the film and were immediately smitten with them.[ane]
- Originally, the movie'southward producers considered making Pepita a Xolo dog. But, from an artistic bespeak of view, opting to brand her an Alebrije opened upwards all sorts of heady possibilities.[ane]
